Clutha is home to the Catlins coastal area, featuring Nugget Point and Cathedral Cove. Miles of unspoiled coastline and winding roads make it a much sought after location for feature films and car commercials. Local town Tapanui was the heart and soul of Disney's PETE'S DRAGON.
The wider region offers picturesque countryside with farms and dense forests. Buildings, bridges and meandering roads hark back to gold rush times fuelled by the mighty Clutha River – New Zealand's largest by volume.
The district's hub is Balclutha, spanning the river itself, while the city of Dunedin is just an hour away.
