Queenstown Lakes

Filmmakers love Queenstown Lakes.

Queenstown has been an established screen production centre for more than forty years. Its internationally renowned locations, experienced crew and suppliers, and huge choice of accommodation and entertainment options make Queenstown popular with all members of a production. From A-list stars to producers looking after their bottom line, everyone wants to come back.

The industry is sustained by regular television commercials with international calibre production companies calling Queenstown home. Feature films such as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT, A WRINKLE IN TIME, THE HOBBIT and LORD OF THE RINGS trilogies and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE have also had a considerable impact on the region.

The wider Queenstown Lakes region also encompasses towns like Glenorchy, Wanaka and Arrowtown, known for their mountain scenery and small-town charm.

With more than 200 locally-based crew and an extensive range of specialist equipment, the region offers a complete turnkey package.

Queenstown Lakes Film Office: The local council has its own in-house film office to help provide support, advice and information to productions and filmmakers. Find out more here.

Message from the Mayor

Queenstown Lakes District has stunning, film-worthy landscapes with more breath-taking mountains and lakes than you can shake a camera at. QLDC welcomes and supports productions that want to make this in-demand, jewel of New Zealand a starring role in your next big filming project. Jim Boult
