The New Zealand Government supports the film industry with globally competitive incentives.
The New Zealand Screen Production Rebate, originally named the New Zealand Screen Production Grant, is a Government-backed screen incentives scheme, first introduced on 1 April 2014.
The rebate is administered by the New Zealand Film Commission.
International Productions - Eligible productions can access a 20% cash rebate on Qualifying New Zealand Production Expenditure, with a 5% Uplift available for productions that can demonstrate significant economic benefits to New Zealand. A Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Rebate is also available.
New Zealand Productions - Eligible productions can access a 40% cash rebate on Qualifying New Zealand Production Expenditure. Official co-productions via one or more of New Zealand’s 18 co-production arrangements are considered New Zealand Productions.
